UP TO NOW THE LITTLE ONE HAS BEEN WHOLLY A CHILD.
Trusting, believing and without doubts. People are good. What they say is true; what they do is right. He is still wholly a child. But the grey eyes are beginning to hold questions, first questions, still unformed but already questions: questions that go deeper than just the realities of things — questions directed at Life. Still his eyes are bright and clear, not clouded by shadows — the eyes of a child. The flame which is to come is not yet kindled. He is still a child. |
