PS to Another problem

In the meantime I succeeded in making the home page look better again, at least partly as before. While the full problem existed, Opera was not affected by it. This more standards complying browser, normally very touchy when one does not strictly stick to the best rules in coding, showed the page as I wanted it, before the problem arose, during the acute phase of the problem, and now that the problem is very partially solved. No change whatsoever. Not so Internet Explorer and Netscape. After I tried to circumvent the problem a bit and succeeded (by replacing the code applicable to the whole page by code applicable separately to the parts above and below my "CB's notewok"), this weblog is now stepping out of the row alone, as you can see, but only under these two browsers. This looks less nice and less consistent with the rest, reduces the ease of reading, the lines being too long, and, above all, forces many users to scroll horizontally for each line, something nobody likes to do. Vertical scrolling is already enough.

I am waiting for some answers from the experts and hope that we all will not have to wait very much longer till the problem is entirely solved... Thanks for your patience so far!

Another problem

After my serious e-mail problems have been solved since a while (I had not bothered to specially announce it), though they had lasted much too long of course and made me lose some important messages, it's the turn now of the next even bigger problem which makes me want to kill myself. Out of nowhere suddenly this home page does not look as before, the 544 pixels wide layout centered on the page has widened and everything looks gruesome to me. Nothing has been changed in the source code of the page that could have caused this, and the home pages of two other websites of mine are built exactly the same, but remained as before, though hosted on the same server. My "CB's notewok", which you are reading right now, is fed into a spot of the page below the newsticker by a PHP installation on my server, "powered by" Zend, which most probably is the cause of the problem. When I read "powered by" anything, I start running. How revealing is this so widespread American English expression and its infatuation with Power! Brrrrr..... Let's unpower them with new better ideas! ;-)

I am in consultation with "experts" and hope to find a solution soon. I do apologize for this to you and beg you for some patience, but I hardly feel like adding something to this page as long as this problem is not solved.

Paradise to sell for US$1.00!

(each slice; as many or few slices as you wish)

I am glad to forward the following I received yesterday and was authorised today to post here:

"Dear libertarians,

As you know, I co-own a 20 room inn and 130 seat restaurant on the popular and safe island of Barbados. It's 7+ oceanfront acres surrounded on 3 sides by water (river and national park on the north, river and 85 acre rain forest on the west, and 9 mile uninterrupted beach and ocean on the east and south. It includes 5 acres with permission to develop additional units, second restaurant and conference space.

It looks like we're going to accept one of two US$2 million offers to sell that will be coming in within the next 30 days.

This is such a great opportunity to create a libertarian community I'm making a last ditch effort to keep it in libertarian hands.

At this late date I can only advertise it far and wide by email. I'm willing to sell 1 million shares (out of 2 million total) at US$1 a share.

I'm asking that you forward this message to everyone you know -- especially those libertarians living in cold climates! This is a terrific opportunity to make money (projected profits of development, US$10 million) and have a place to getaway from the rat race.

Commissions on sale: 5% cash or time in Paradise

See http://www.EdgewaterInn.com, but only use this email (dagny AT sunbeach DOT net) to contact the owners.

Oh, by the way, I got married last week - yes, to my longtime libertarian/communist boyfriend (his label and my only philosophical teaching failure). I now have 2 sons, a daughter and two grandchildren by law, and am on Cloud 9.

Let me know if you care to see the Executive Summary and profit projections.

Live long and prosper,

P.S. dagny AT sunbeach DOT net IS MY ONE AND ONLY EMAIL ADDRESS. DELETE ALL OTHERS.
Also, let me know if you receive more than one copy of this version so I can clean up my email list.

So far Dagny. Who was so kind to send me today the following note: "happy belated birthday!

excellent website. very enjoyable reads, like wto report and nannis vs. nazis. bravo!"

Thanks a lot! I do get notes like that from time to time, but why don't people enter those into my guestbook like in former times (old guestbook), so that I do not have to post them here myself??? :-)

This posting is also a kind of thank you note for having once been invited by Dagny to stay for free at this beautiful resort!

THEY ARE AT IT AGAIN!! ~ E ~

Scripture text: And Jesus said, "The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, what shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits. And he said, this will I do; I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, THOU FOOL, this night thy soul shall be required of thee, then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." (Luke 12:16-21)

GE, already the largest corporation in the world, is not content. They currently own NBC, CNBC, and MSNBC. Now they want to merge with Vivendi Universal. This will give them a control over the media the likes of which the world has never known.

I urge you to go to YAHOO! ---the final authority, and type in Securities and Exchange Commission. You will find sites that will give you the email addresses of all their offices. Write to these people, insisting that the merger be stopped dead in its tracks.

In the Book of Revelation (Amplified Version) it indicates these huge corporations will collapse, and when it happens, it will happen WITHIN THE PERIOD OF ONE HOUR.

"Examine that gray, pulpy matter called brains, and you will find no mind therein."

Mary Baker Eddy

The above is UPDATE #6 of 9/15/03 on "A Personal Visit With Edward.". To understand what it is all about, please go to that page and from there to all the other pages of the site and even the outbound links. It is fully worth it in many ways. And don't think that I have become overly religious (as a friend of mine was afraid of these days upon reading the many religious references mainly in my Gay section) or a Christian Scientist (my first name being Christian, this is indeed more than enough!), though I have always respected this denomination more than most others (if only for the excellent articles in "The Christian Science Monitor"). And the author is not either.

Herewith I want to help Edward Eugene Baskett, a nice talented man, to battle for a worthy cause. And I consider that the "enert dem kiishtebaam" weblog on my Luxembourg site, where I had posted this on September 27, is not a bad place for the matter concerned, since Luxembourg is a top financial and media place of world importance and a European capital. EU antitrusties, listen! But it is important to post it also on my portal site here where more people will see it!

A little warning before you visit that site: it contains nice music embedded through the Beatnik player (which I happen to know and like), but with some browsers it can sometimes happen that it blocks the full use of the page (so that you cannot click or exit); in that case try to click on the Beatnik logo till you get a menu where you can pause or stop the music. So that you can access all of the big warning.

"From Gay.com UK

Tuesday 30 September, 2003

Indonesia could ban homosexual sex in moves to tighten up its sex laws.

The country's justice minister is currently drawing up an amendment to its criminal code, which is thought to include acts that are considered morally unacceptable.

Other acts set to be made illegal include oral sex and cohabitation, a spokesman said yesterday, although he admitted that more could follow.

"It's still in its early stage. We're still collecting input from various parties and experts," spokesman Sukartono Supangat said.

Punishments for the new laws could vary from two years in jail for cohabitation and between 3 to 12 years for sodomy and oral sex.

The new laws will update the Dutch colonial laws with Islamic law, international conventions and tribal codes."
