"[...]it gives hard working politicians a ridiculous image[...]"

This quote from Cecilia Malmström, a Swedish member of the European Parliament, on the list of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe [American readers, please note that these are not "liberals" in the present meaning of the word in your country, though I cannot guarantee for the details...], and originally from Swedish Folkpartiet, is a laugh by itself. But when politicians are working hard it is usually we who have nothing much left to laugh about.

I have nothing against Cecilia personally nor against her party, Folkpartiet. I am even glad that the party at the Swedish general election nine days ago did not lose more votes. It is maybe and certainly and somehow the right direction for Sweden. Within the larger menu of statism, of course. And if you consider the success of the Alliance for Sweden of which Folkpartiet was one part. Nevertheless, our MEP is sporting a PhD in Political Science. To those who do not know, this is the science about how to enslave people...

Now, what is she talking about? It is the Oneseat campaign. Be warned: the favourite occupation of politicians is skimming. Either the profits or the issues. And they work hard at it. It is our blue image reflecting in the skimmed milk that is ridiculous, while they are laughing. Basic fundamental issues have since long been buried. Whether we need to surrender in the first place or have willingly surrendered our self-ownership to those funny hats. Those fearful masses they have created, who think that there is no alternative, may keep what they have if they want it, but they have no right whatsoever to indirectly enslave us dissenters in their territorial collectives.

Do not expect too much of the Oneseat campaign. It is just one of those red herrings. While this reform ~~ reforms here are what becomes necessary when your starting point is wrong ~~ might reduce some costs to the taxpayer, it would also deprive us of some of the beauty of that EU "pageantry" (they prefer to call it "circus") and at the same time render that awful power beast more efficient. As a well-known Luxemburg EUropolitician put it, talking to her Dutch friend, a lawyer working for the Secretariat of the European Parliament in Luxemburg, during their train trip to Strasbourg: "My beauty case is a desperate case." She was referring to her looks, not to ours in the skimmed milk.

One should not expect too much of classical liberal political parties, classical liberal think tanks and the like. In spite of all the qualities they sometimes have, they are always one if not several steps behind what would be needed. Would you believe it, a German one these days tries to convince us [in German] of the possibility and necessity of "'good' bureaucrats"... Cheers!
