Why this silence in this blog (and elsewhere on the site, except for JDM's weekly column) for a good month? Since several weeks I mostly have no Internet connection at home. First it had to do with a mistake my provider made during changes to my account, now it is an almost insolvable problem with my PC's hardware and software, with my ISDN card, my ISDN switchboard, cables etc. And it not only costs a lot of nerves, but also of money needed elsewhere. So you know what you have to do. I can be reached by phone (+49-40-37501760) [land line], preferably not by fax [short of toner, not easy and very expensive to get for this model]. In case of urgency use the following e-mail address: cb at mail dot com. Which I use from a web cafe. Sorry!BACK TO (AB)NORMAL EXPECTED FOR MID-SEPTEMBER...My fax problem has been solved (I simply replaced the machine by another one! I had to get the idea first and become motivated to do it. Should I thank the mean idiot who upon the notice above sent me ~~ anonymously ~~ a bunch of largely black pages to exhaust my toner supply? My new machine is able to block such anonymous calls and specific numbers too... Internet access postponed till the end of September instead of mid-September. If I can believe my old provider, it should be on September 26. Another provider I have tried in the meantime (via TV cable, not phone cable) so far could not establish the connection due to technical difficulties in the house I first have to get my landlord to do something about. One day I may have two parallel connections via different channels, making the whole situation much more reliable. As for the PC problems (hardware and software), some have been solved by replacing some hardware, the others or even all may have been a false alarm, and due only to the one provider. All this will become clear the day I have my connection again. Thanks for your patience!
