Two Popes, one drunk?
The following is an item out of today's RATIONAL REVIEW NEWS DIGEST:
11) Drunk driver pretended to be the PopeAnanova [UK]
"A drunk driver claimed spiritual immunity when he was pulled over in
Holland by pretending to be the Pope. The motorist told police he was
Pope John Paul II, refused to get out of his car and turned his music
up when they stopped him on a road just outside Baarn. The officers
said they could tell immediately he was not the Pontiff as the
inebriated man was in his 50s." (09/17/03)

Where's the difference? If we discount the age, the utterings are on the same level of gratuitousness. I think I prefer the Dutch version. Costs much less. I found the fait divers rather amusing in itself, but also since I know the region of Baarn, having had to do there at the time I was liaison officer of the Olympia Press group. Considering the independence of the Dutch Catholic Church towards Rome, the idea of the drunk driver was not that far-fetched. And considering the tolerant attitude of the Dutch towards gays (as opposed to the Vatican's attitude on the matter), all this is quite consistent. :-) A good occasion to mention that anyone has the right to declare himself a Pope, as he would not be more self-proclaimed than that old drag queen giving nuns the shivers. I myself am not _the_ Pope of course, but I am one also, as good as him, even much better, since I was group-ordained by Robert Anton Wilson in person on July 15, 1987, at the Amerikahaus in Hamburg! My very Christian friend Hajo, though Lutheran, was very shocked! As will be some of my fundamentalist (no-fun-damentalist?) readers who, as everybody knows, have no sense of humour, and above all very very very insufficient knowledge. No comparison with R. A. Wilson. Good that you remind me of him. Have you, especially if you are Californian, visited his site Robert Anton Wilson For Governor and of course his Home Page? Not to forget, if cou can read German, DEFINITIONEN UND UNTERSCHEIDUNGSMERKMALE on this website!
