Mourning a gay freedom fighter

In my post here of 08/10/03 12:09 AM, I had mentioned

"I owe the spelling Texass to Dan Weiner of Pink Pistols of Houston. Please help Dan. For more information go to Mary Lou Seymour."

I feel utterly sad to hear from Tom Knapp today that Dan died yesterday. Please read Tom's eulogy at http://www.rationalreview.com/announcements/103003.html.

I and a couple of friends had sent to Dan all we knew about alternative treatments of cancer, but it was apparently too late, the damage having been done very early in the course of his dedicated, self-sacrificing life for the cause of liberty and the gay cause. And, as you know, the external circumstances, especially for gay people, but for us all, are in many ways so bad, that it is almost a matter of chance, of luck who can withstand them long enough to fulfill his and our dreams.

As for Peter McWilliams, it is hurting deeply to lose again a hero of our causes. A consolation for me is to notice time and again the wonderful solidarity and tolerance among true libertarians, where the ditch beween the GLBT team and the majority does not seem to exist. Liberty is the common denominator. Libertarians mean it. And they prove it!

My condolences go especially to the closest friends of Dan and with Tom I suggest that, if you can, you help Pink Pistols. Guns in the hands of gay victims in the streets, parks and elsewhere is really more adequate here than flowers. Reserve these for your lovers and friends. Donate to those places where liberty is promoted.

Dan, you will be remembered as a great example to follow.
